back to the drawing board

i have some fun news to share today - i am joining the very talented taylored expressions baker's dozen design team :) i was a guest designer for taylored expressions last year and have used TE stamps in several published projects since then - so joinging the team was an easy decision for me to make. i've been working on several projects for the november release and will begin sharing them on monday.

and the reason i chose to share this card - featuring the TE sky's the limit stamp & dies set - was because it was recently published in handmade cards by paper crafts magazine. if you're looking for a copy of handmade cards there might still be a few issues at your local newsstand or you can order a print copy or digital copy.

it's been a while since i've posted any of my published projects. this card here is in the may/june issue of paper crafts magazine - i used one of the go-to sketches featured in the issue. there's a small photo of the card on page 22 while the supply list and instructions for recreating the card can be found paper crafts magazine website here.

a new paper crafts magazine special issue - card design handbook - will be hitting the newsstands soon.

and i am lucky enough to have a few cards in this issue - this one being my favorite. i went with a 'unique' paper for the tree to mirror the sentiment. the card appears in the clean & graphic section and instructions/supplies for it can be found on page 125 of the handbook.

 

when i made this card the plan was to use it for one of my monthly purple onion designs projects, then send it off in an operation write home box. but before the card made it to the pod blog, or into the owh box, it ended up in the latest volume of stamp it! cards from paper crafts magazine.

when creating the card i stuck with shades of gray for the post office so that the flag would stand out - i also stamped the flag on a scrap of cardstock then attached the flag to the card base with a tiny glue dot so it would pop off the card base a bit. and lastly i added a bit more color to the card with some quick machine stitching.

i've been waiting to share this card for a while - it was published in the 10th volume of card creations which went on sale last month. i had some craft room furmiture to put together a while back - and instead of throwing out the extra pieces i decided to throw them onto a card. and the black staples are just regular staples that i colored with a copic marker.

and one more card i created for gallery idol this year - the simplest but my favorite. i was planning on using a 'reach for the stars' sort of sentiment, but then came across this one i thought it was a bit more unique.

i just finished flipping through my digital copy of the may/june issue of paper crafts magazine and figured it was about time i share one of my projects from the march/april issue. this card uses the sketch on page 28 - well the mirror image of the sketch.

this week paper crafts magazine is promoting their new special issue - practical solutions for paper crafters. so today seems like a good day to share this card. it appears in the 'don't throw it away!' section of the magazine. my 'don't throw it away!' item is the grid background which came from the packaging of a stamp set by maya road. and if you are wondering - the sentiment stamp is from a lawn fawn stamp set. complete supply list can be found on page 126 of the magazine. and if you are unable find a copy in your local bookstore then you can buy it online here.

moxie fab world

another special by paper crafts magazine was recently released - stamp it! 3 ways. i was lucky enough to have been assigned 3 stamp sets to work with - and my favorite of the 3 cards i made was featured on the moxie fab world blog a few weeks back.

moxie fab world blog

last week the paper crafts magazine blogs were promoting the new special issue cool tools - so i grabbed a couple of screen shots of my cards from the moxie fab world blog. i was asked to make 3 cards for the issue and 1 of them even made it on to the cover - it's the card with the flower. if you didn't make it to the moxie fab world blog last week be sure to check it out - there are a bunch of tool specific challenges going on right now.

a couple of cards recently published in paper crafts magazine. the happy holidays card appears in the special issue 365 cards & the merry christmas card appears in the november/december issue.

here is today's card that went up over at the jane's doodles blog. to make the trees i turned a triangle banner upside down. the design idea was borrowed from a card i had published in the paper crafts magazine special issue holiday cards & more earlier this year - if you have the issue it's on p19.

didn't have much going on this past weekend so i decided to make a card for the current hero arts challenge - i opted for the sketch challenge and used one of the sketches below. as for a few details which can't really be seen in the photo above - finally opened up my white enamel accents and used it for the snow on the roof of the house. also added a bit of glossy accents to the lights to make them shine.

here's another card i made with one of the new stamp sets from purple onion designs. the pumpkins were stamped on a page from an old book then i used spray inks and a paint brush add some to color. and that frame was stamped onto a piece of denim from some old jeans.

quilting project #3 - a pillow for halloween. quilting project #2 is still in progress. it's a halloween table runner from the same fabrics as the pillow - i still need to quilt and bind it though. i'm sort of intimidated by how big it is - so after piecing the top of the table runner i decided to make something a bit smaller - the pillow. and with the pillow i was able to try out my new fabric die-cut machine and half square triangle die - i learned very early on in the cutting stage of quilting project #1 that i do not like cutting out bunches of squares by hand. and i used the following tutorials for my halloween pillow:
