as my summer crafting time comes to an end i have a beach themed project to share. i received a box from bazzill basics paper last week and in it was the 6x6 mini prints of their beach house collection. not only is this collection perfect for beach themed cards or project life documenting - but all the red, white/neutral & blue papers also make this collection perfect for patriotic cards which you can send off to operation write home.

most of my crafty time this summer has been spent creating cards, so i went with a 3-d project for this week. the mini birdhouse comes together quickly - the trickiest part is cutting the paper for the front. after glueing down the paper i highlighted the edges of the birdhouse and toned down the paper a bit with distress ink. and then what took the longest time - deciding which shells to use!

i have one more card to share as the august guest designer for taylored expressions. both the sentiment and globe stamps are from the doodle notes set concepted by jen shults and illustrated by nancy mckinney. i've decided that i need to pull out my rarely used supplies and start using/learning a few more techniques on my cards - i guess that is what 16 hours of tim holtz classes over 2 days will do to a person. nothing too fancy happened on this card - just some alcohol inks and a small piece of foil tape.

to get the blue/green blended look on the globe apply a drop of blue alcohol ink and a drop of green alcohol ink to the felt applicator and swipe across a scrap of glossy cardstock. stamp the globe image with archival ink and let dry - a heat gun will speed this up.

for the globe base - stamp globe base image on a small piece of a foil tape sheet, cut out and stick onto a scrap of paper. fold the foil tape to create creases and ink with black alcohol ink or spray ink - i used spray ink. once dry apply a matte sealer.

i had a bit of free time yesterday morning, so i put together these 2 cards for the hero arts august challenge - clean & simple stamping. both cards were created with the same hero arts/studio calico stamp set. i just added a bit of copic marker coloring and some thread or washi tape and that's it. fairly clean & simple i think.

today i'm sharing a card that i created with the doodle notes set concepted by jen shults and illustrated by nancy mckinney & the happy trails set concepted by jami sibley and illustrated by doug applegate.

to create my card i stamped the paper airplane - from the doodle notes set - onto patterned paper, cut them out and pieced them together. then to connect the paper airplane to sentiment - from the happy camper set - i stitched a few running stitches with sewing thread. you can easily acheive the same look with a fine point marker.

i'm back this month participating in the august release with the taylored expressions baker's dozen design team - all stamps and dies released this month will be available in the store on thursday, 8/9 at 8am pdt.

my card today features of one of the three new atc sized stamps - the notepaper stamp - as well as a sneek peak of the doodle notes set concepted by jen shults and illustrated by nancy mckinney.

to create my card i stamped the notepaper and sentiment stampes directly onto the card base - using my stamp-a-ma-jig to make sure everything lined up well. then to add a bit of dimension to the card, on a scrap of cardstock i stamped the notepaper and then on top of that the doodle heart. using the chisel end of a copic i added a bit of red, cut out the heart & then attached it the card base being careful to line up the notepaper lines.
