it's finally halloween! and no school either. with the plague hitting our campus they decided a 3-day weekend would be give everyone time to recover. so for the first time since august i have nothing to do. no grading, no lesson planning, no 10th grade homework, no games, nothing. i'm hoping the new scenic route garland line shows up today. then i can start on some new christmas projects and actually get them done before christmas. but until then, here is another halloween card. this one was made for purple onion. i stamped all those little halloween icons and then cut them out. paper: scenic route salem; ki memories stamps: purple onion designs

Cheesy Garlic Drop Biscuits

This is a perfect recipe to pull out if you are short on time because there is no rolling or cutting. The cheese and garlic add extra kick to a plain biscuit, and kids love them. They are the perfect accompaniment to serve with soups or stews, and are great served with a salad.

INGREDIENTS
2 c. flour; 2 tbsp. granulated sugar; 4 tsp. baking powder; 1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder; 1/2 tsp. salt; 2/3 c. butter or margarine; 1 1/2 c. grated cheddar cheese; 1 1/4 c. milk; chives (optional)

DIRECTIONS
Mix together dry ingredients. Cut in butter with pastry cutter until mixture is fine. Add cheese and mix well. Add milk and stir until just moistened. Drop by spoonfuls onto greased baking sheet. Sprinkle top with chopped dried or fresh chives if desired. Bake at 400 degrees for approx. 15 minutes.

1 Make tag from cardstock. 2 Crumple tag and smooth out. Spray edges with color wash; let dry. Apply chalk. 3 Ink chipboard moon; let dry. Chalk edges and adhere. 4 Ink chipboard bat; let dry. Adhere with foam tape. 5 Print sentiment on cardstock; trim and tear edges. Chalk edges and adhere with foam tape. Attach brads. Attach ribbon with brad.

 i went and saw this today (andy warhol: skull). note: photo was taken at an angle with my iphone. so not the best shot. it was the most halloweenish piece of art i could find at the met. we escaped our plague ridden school today and took some kids out for some fresh air. the trip had been planned for a while, and it just happened to fall on a day when almost 1/4 of the upper school was absent, and more than 1/2 of the middle school. of the middle school about 5/6 of the 8th graders were not here. i heard that my 8th grade class only had 2 kids there today - usually there are 10. and there was something like 13 teachers out sick. so anyways, we took 26 kids to the met - there were supposed to be 40 on the trip. we roamed around the met for a couple of hours and then went and played in central park. i love chaperoning these field trips. once we got in the doors of the museum i was free to do whatever i wanted. and while i'm on the topic of the met, just wanted to congratulate one of my former students on the party he helped throw last night at the met. yes a party at the met and no i didn't go. it was to celebrate philippe de montebello’s 31 years as director. but i must say that i'm excited to see what the new director does since i recently had the opportunity to meet him.

i actually had free time after school today! i was planning on going to the jv football game, but it was away and i didn't feel like driving. so i stayed here and watched girls field hockey instead. awesome game. and before the game i made this card. another one using the halloween noteblock from purple onion designs. if you want to see more ideas on how to use the noteblocks check out the purple onion blog.

i haven't had much time for anything the past couple of days. with the marking period winding down and evenings spent reading chaucer with my 10th grader, i haven't had a chance to make anything new. i never read chaucer in high school, let alone 10th grade. we were reading to kill a mockingbird in 10th grade. in fact i only remember reading 2 books all the way through in high school - grapes of wrath and watership down. so the canterbury tales has been quite an experience for me. and lucky for me the internet is filled with translations. oh, and my bff here at school just so happens to have gotten her phd in medeival lit, so she's been pretty helpful. so anyways, since i haven't made anything new i figured i'd share 2 of my favorite halloween cards i made a few years ago.

last week i was lucky enough to get an email asking if i wanted to be part of the purple onion designs creative team. you can see a list of all of the new members here. it'll definitely force me to start to get creative with all of the stamps i own that just sit on a shelf. i've been proud of myself lately. the past couple of things i've made have used stamps. and here's a card i made with one of the new noteblock stamps. i stamped the image onto a transparency and then attached it to the scenic route paper with some orange staples.

just got back from another football game. our jv boys destroyed the other team today. my group of boys all scored which was really awesome. over the weekend varsity wasn't so lucky. it was a loss saturday afternoon, but the team they were playing was full of monsters, literally. this one kid was like 6'9 and over 300 pounds. it was ridiculous. he stood there and our boys just bounced off of him. we only loss by one touchdown, so not too bad. so in between football and soccer i made these little buckets. i found them in the target $1 bins a couple of weeks ago. i tried to make them not too halloweenish so i can keep them out all year.

i decorated this little box real quick earlier this week. but i didn't want to take a pic of it until i had candy to put inside of it. so i searched the school for m&m's today and no one had any. how is that possible? so i had to stop by the store after school today and get some. then i accidentaly bought peanut ones instead of plain. oh well, they worked. i have a couple of more halloween projects that are almost finished up. i'm gonna try and finish them in between soccer and football games and the stack of tests that need to be graded.
